Open a new image roughly A4 size. Choose no background colour (see Figure 1).
Choose a colour you’d like the paper to be designed around. This should be a reasonably dark shade. For the example, this will be green.
Fill the background with this colour as shown in Figure 2.
 Figure 2
Create a new vector layer, using the text tool create a title in the font and style you want. The colour of this text is the original colour you chose.
Create a new vector layer. Using the pre-set shapes within the rectangle tool draw a sun to the top right of the main text. Fade this to the desired shade of green.
 Figure 4
Repeat this with 6-10 words associated with the theme of the paper. Arrange them around the box (See Figure 5).
Copy and paste the words as new layers to fill the image. If you wish you could merge some of the words together to make it easier to fill the rest of the image.

 Figure 1
Create a new raster layer and fill this white.
Make sure the second layer is above the first.
Fade the green layer to the desired colour for the background of the paper as shown in Figure 3.
 Figure 3
Create a new vector layer. Draw a box around the main text using a ‘barbed wire’ line in the original green colour.
Create a new vector layer. Using the text tool create a word associated with the main title of the paper. Rotate the text to roughly a 45 degree angle and again fade this to the desired shade. This should leave you with something similar to Figure 4.
 Figure 5
To print the paper, choose print from the file menu. When chosing size and position make sure that 'fit to page' is selected as shown in figure 6.
These processes can be done with any text or images to create your own background papers, ideal for card making, scrapbooking and for altered art.
